Alert-O · English
Flood vigilance & safety
Alert-O tracks official French flood-vigilance levels (Vigicrues) and provides safety advice. This is a short English summary — the full service is in French.
The four vigilance levels
Green (Vert)
No particular vigilance required. Stay informed.
Yellow (Jaune)
Be aware: water levels may rise. Avoid riverbanks.
Orange (Orange)
Significant risk. Move valuables and vehicles to high ground; be ready to act.
Red (Rouge)
Major risk. Follow authorities' instructions immediately and reach a high, safe place.
Key safety reflexes
- Never walk or drive through floodwater — 30 cm is enough to sweep away a car.
- Move to higher ground; do not go down into basements or underground areas.
- Turn off gas, electricity and water if it is safe to do so.
- Keep a battery radio and follow official instructions (préfecture, town hall).
- Prepare an emergency kit (water, food, flashlight, documents, medication).
Emergencies in France: call 112 (European emergency number) or 18 (fire brigade). 114 is reachable by SMS for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
